Structured Classical Curriculum · Ages 5+ & Adults
From Foundational Rhythm to Masterful Stage Performance
Step into the rhythmic world of Kathak. Our curriculum provides a clear, progressive path for dancers of all ages, taking students from foundational rhythm to masterful stage performance. Grounded in technique and expressive art, each level builds strength, stamina, precision, and emotional depth.

Philosophy & Pedagogy
“Kathak is the living pulse of rhythm, speed, and subtle emotional nuance. We teach dancers to master the mathematics of Tala and the soul of Abhinaya.”
Kathak derives its name from the Sanskrit word Katha, meaning story — “Katha kahe so Kathak kahave” (He who tells a story is a Kathak). Originating in the temples of North India and later refined in royal courts, it unites mathematical rhythmic footwork with delicate, soulful theatrical mime.
Our curriculum at Rhythmzz Academy is structured as a clear, sequential path. Dancers develop crisp footwork, effortless pirouette control, oral rhythmic recitation, and nuanced characterization across each graded milestone.
Tatkar Footwork Formula: Ta · Thei · Thei · Tat | Aa · Thei · Thei · Tat
Grounded mathematical footwork starting in single speed (Vilambit) and advancing through double (Dugun) and quadruple (Chaugun) on the 16-beat Teental metric cycle.
Systematic spotting drills and upright balance, progressing from single-count turns to 27 continuous rapid Chakkars landing effortlessly on Sam.
Students recite rhythmic mnemonics (bols) with hands executing Taali and Khali before dancing, ensuring complete musical synchronization.
Subtle facial expression, eye gestures, and character transitions bringing mythological poetry, Thumri, and Ghazals to life with emotional authenticity.
Admissions & Batches
We welcome beginners and continuing students into age-aligned cohorts with dedicated faculty attention.
Young learners begin with posture, rhythm listening, clapping, and joint-safe basic Tatkar footwork.
Level 1 assumes zero prior dance background. Every movement is built systematically from Sama posture and basic alignment.
Prior Kathak or classical training is evaluated by senior faculty for the right level placement across our progressive cohorts.
Adult beginners and mature learners are welcome, with curriculum paced to adult biomechanics, stamina, and expressive depth.

Classical Manch Suite
The complete classical Kathak concert sequence progressing from sacred invocation and courtly entry pieces to rapid technical compositions and the climactic Tatkar Jugalbandi.
The sacred classical opening offering prayers to the Guru and the Divine, invoking auspiciousness and grounding the mind in reverence.
Slow, majestic movements introducing the dancer. Subtle neck and wrist articulation, followed by traditional royal salutations honoring the audience.
The classical entry piece meaning "arrival". Characterized by sweeping arm extensions and crisp rhythmic syllables concluding with dramatic precision.
Technical rhythmic suites composed of mnemonic bols, rapid spins, and intricate tihais performed in fast Drut tempo with live percussion.
Graceful walking gaits depicting mythological scenes such as Krishna with the flute (Bansuri) or milkmaids carrying pitchers (Panghat), rendered entirely through solo mime.
High-energy technical dance set to rhythmic syllables (Ta-Re-Na, Nom-Tom) composed by Amir Khusrau, celebrating speed, sculpturesque poses, and brisk footwork.
Soulful semi-classical compositions where the dancer seated or standing interprets the emotional subtleties of poetry through expressive eyes, eyebrows, and hand mudras.
The grand finale where the dancer engages in lightning-fast rhythmic interplay with the Tabla player, demonstrating complete mastery over ghungroo dynamics.

“Entry to the stage” — a Kathak dancer's formal graduation into artistic maturity and solo performance. Manch Pravesh represents years of accumulated technical stamina, speed, rhythm mathematics, and expressive depth.
Performed with a complete live classical ensemble (Tabla, Harmonium, Vocalist, and Padhant recitation), it demonstrates full artistic independence under the guidance of senior faculty.
